I am doing okay. One day at a time right now but things have not gotten worse so that is a huge blessing! I only had the blood once and that has not come back so fingers crossed it stays gone. All other symptoms are still here but hopefully we will get this figured out on Tuesday. I did a stool test and it came back negative which I know they can if on Vanco but my last one was positive on vanco when I relapsed so I took this one as a good sign, I hope. My husband came home but did so with the flu. He has been sleeping, 33 of the last 48 hours and so I just thank god I have been able to push through and take care of my boys. I thank you guys so much for all your support and prayers, they mean the world to me and are carrying me through this very tough time in my life.

| Well they did a full colonoscopy and now we wait for the biopsies and the c diff test. I know things are not good though. The prep did a number on me this time and D continued up until the procedure. I ask them about it and they said it should stop because they cleaned everything out. Well it hasn't and it is full blown c diff D this morning. I am so ready to just throw in the towel. I have a feeling not even liquids are going to stay in me as it is passing right through me. I can't comprehend how this is happening. Last week I had loose stools but they were not full blown D and not this frequent and now they are. I feel like last week was beginning of a relapse even though I was on vanco and the prep sent it full blown. I am exhausted from all of this. |

| The prep can really upset things. If the D* continues you might need to go to the ER and get IV fluids - maybe call the doctor ahead of time first so that they don't just send you home again. Am praying for all this to get better. Hopefully it is not a relapse. |

Amanda,
Can see why you are discouraged - you've gone through so much.
Try to stay hydrated. See FAQ-Dehydration. It's one of the most frequent reasons people with C. diff. are hospitalized. One of the signs of dehydration is if you "pinch" your skin it remains white -- the color doesn't return as it should. Also, you are constantly thirsty -- even when drinking liquids. Do check in with your doc., however, and relate your symptoms.
Try drinking Pedylyte - usually given to small children. Gatorade is OK. Mix it with water l/2 and l/2 if you have blood pressure problems. Stay away from other "sports" drinks.
If you get deperate, try the ER, but stay away from as many other patients as possible since there is so much "crud" going around. (If possible, take a chair and sit far away from others as possible. You don't need another infection.
You said your husband came home with the "flu." (Thanks, hubby.) Don't panic as you could have "picked" it up from him.
You will eventually feel better. It took me four years to get over my first bout of C. diff. so I understand what desperation means. |

Amanda, I am really sorry to hear this...I can't imagine how difficult this has been and is. I'm hoping this will clear up soon...I had to take some "feel good" pills during my bout. I didn't take them every day, but they helped.
When I had my prep for hysterectomy (same as colonoscopy)....it was horrible. So harsh and the instructions said I'd be going for a few hours...oh no...it kept right on until they knocked me out for surgery the next day. I was literally in the loo all night long; got no sleep. Never experienced anything like it before. I am hoping this isn't C Diff again, but you seem pretty sure it is, and you're usually right. I agree w/everyone else...stay hydrated and if you can't, go to ER. WEAR A MASK. They should have them available at check in. I have done this for over a month now when I take my grandson to the pediatrician, and I make him wear one too.
Please keep us updated! I hope you feel better soon!

| I am having a "good" day. They are so few and far between lately that they have to be celebrated when they come! I have been taking Xifaxin for 3 days now and pray that it is what is getting things under control and that it continues. I know those who relapse on it ussually do around day 5 or 6 but I pray that it is the "wonder" drug for me...lol! I thank you all so much for your encouraging words! It is the most terrifying thing when you think this nasty disease is getting the best of your life and I couldn't have gotten through these last two months without all of your words of encouragement and prayers! You are all such blessings! I am taking it one day at a time from now on and that is it. I will enjoy the good days and push through the bad. No news on the stool study yet from the colonoscopy but my biopsies all came back good(no crohns or celiac). The stool study they flew across the US. I am in Iowa and they flew it to Utah which makes me think that even if it was c diff by the time they got it there it wouldn't show up. |

During the colonoscopy they would usualy have seen typical indications if you had C.diff.
If they did not mention it then it sounds like good news!!!
Fingers crossed your on the mend.

Roy, my wife had an endoscopy and colonoscopy while in the hospital and the doctor found no indication of damage, although I'm not sure he suspected cdiff. She had several positive cdiff lab tests after that, but the first time they tested was not until about a week after the colonoscopy. I'm thankful it apparently didn't damage her colon. For the entire week prior to the colonoscopy she had large amounts of occult blood in her stool (black stools indicating the bleeding is further up in the GI tract) and lost so much blood that her blood pressure dropped dangerously low (70/42 if I remember correctly) and she needed three units transfusion. The middle section of her GI tract was never viewed in any way. The bleeding gradually stopped on its own.

70/42 was lucky, not many recover from a BP that low, someone with a BP that low usualy dies within 24 hours unless drastic measures are taken to improve it!
The main thing is that Amandas only problem is or WAS C.diff.
The colonoscopy results showed a normal result.
In her case thats brilliant news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
